Dr. Ramalingam Sankaran, MD

      Professor and Head

The PSG CMMT is headed by Dr Ramalingam Sankaran, a pharmacologist with postdoctoral training at Stanford Medical School in Pharmacogenetics . His main areas of interests include Pharmacogenetics and Bioethics. He is the Principal investigator for the ICMR funded project on “Developing a novel biomarker for female genital tuberculosis’.

Dr.Ramakrishnan Ramagounder PhD

     Professor (Research)

Dr Ramakrishnan completed his PhD in Physiology at Madras University and spent his career in Japan as a postdoctoral fellow and as a research associate at Nova Southeastern University, Ft.Lauderdale, FL, USA and at the Drexel University, Philadelphia,USA. His main research interests are in the areas of Cancer research and Diabetes mellitus. He has had vast experience in studying the role of VEGF and mdm2 oncogenes that is involved in the regulation of tumor angiogenesis in breast tumor cell line GI-101A and Leukemia cell line HL-60.
He has also studied various catecholamines and indoleamines level in seven areas of brain such as Striatum, hippocampus, hypothalamus, Midbrain, Pons Medulla, Cerebellum and Cerebral Cortex after inducing the experimental diabetes and its consequences hyperglycemic as well as acidotic condition in rodent model. He joined PSGCMMT in the year 2009 and currently working on neurotransmitter levels in diabetes in animal models.

Dr.Thiagarajan Sairam PhD

     Assistant Professor (Research)

Dr Thiagarajan Sairam is a PhD in Microbiology from Madurai Kamaraj University. He started his career at PSGCMMT. He has extensive experience in molecular biology skills and his thesis work involved Production, Characterization, Cloning and Expression of selected xylanases of Aspergillus fumigates MKU1. His areas of interests are Rheumatoid arthritis, Diabetes Mellitus and Cardiac failure. He is currently the Principal Investigator of the DBT funded project on “Toll like receptors in Rheumatoid Arthritis” under the Rapid grant for young investigators scheme.

Dr.Sudha Ramalingam MD

     Assistant Professor

Department of Community Medicine

Dr Sudha Ramalingam is an MD in Community Medicine with postdoctoral training in Molecular genetics from Stanford School of Medicine and in Genetic Epidemiology from the University Of Chicago, USA. She is the Principal Investigator for a DBT granted project “Genotype-Phenotype correlation of a novel G protein receptor kinase activity polymorphism in cardiac failure” under the Rapid Grant for Young Investigators scheme. Her main research interests are Cardiac diseases in Asian population, diabetes mellitus and tribal health.
